  • Your institutional membership makes you an official sponsor of APSA’s annual meetings held in conjunction with the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and the Association of American Physicians (AAP) Joint Annual Meeting in Chicago.
  • As official Annual Meeting sponsor, you will be recognized in print inside the Annual Meeting Registration booklet, on the APSA website, and verbally during the Annual Meeting. Finally, you will be allowed to advertise by placing a brochure in the bags of all trainees attending the conference.

Full Member

  • MD/PhD or DO/PhD trainee, residents, fellows:

    $25 annually, or $125 for the duration of the training program

  • MD or DO students, residents, fellows involved in qualified research training experiences*, based on Membership Committee approval:

    $25 annually, or $85 for 5 years

Associate Member

  • MD or DO students, residents, fellows not yet engaged in research, premedical undergraduate students, individuals not yet enrolled in medical school, or anyone who does not fit the requirements of Full Membership or Emeritus Membership:

    $25 annually, $12 for premedical undergraduate students.

Emeritus Member

  • Those ≤5 years out of medical residency / fellowship training:

    $62 annually

  • Those >5 years out of medical residency / fellowship training:

    $125 annually

    $1,000 for lifetime membership status

15% Local Chapter Discount:
Any institution with an ACTIVE local chapter (LC) can apply an additional 15% discount to their IM cost.

Annual Meeting Registration Waiver:
Institutions with an IM in good standing will receive 3 registration waivers for students to attend the APSA Annual Meeting in Chicago. This is a $225 savings.

Criteria for Full Membership among MD and DO students

MD/PhD and DO/PhD students are automatically approved to apply for Full Membership status. However, MD or DO students must substantiate research involvement. The following pre-approved experiences/programs are currently deemed as acceptable research endeavors, allowing these MD or DO applicants to attain Full Membership status:

Medical students who do not have such fellowships can still be considered for Full Membership, by submitting ONE of the following for review by the Membership Committee:

  • A letter from the research training advisor, giving a synopsis of the student's training and development during the period of research
  • A letter from the applicant describing his or her own research interests, and interest in a career as a physician-scientist
  • Documented evidence of research training. This may include abstracts from a scientific conference, publication citations, or other references demonstrating research findings in a public forum. The applicant's name must be among the authors of any reference for acceptable criteria.

In summary, to apply for Full Membership as an MD or DO student (non-dual degree), please complete the following two items:

  • Please fill out the Full Membership application online with the corresponding dues payment
  • Email documented proof of approved fellowship award, OR one of the three alternate credentials above to membership@physicianscientists.org
